The city of Afton is located on the beautiful St. Croix River. The community was named for "Afton Water," poem by Robert Burns.

Afton consists of 25.18 square miles of land. The total estimated population as of the 2,003 was 2,839. The median resident age is 37.9 years.

This restful community is known for it's tranquility and quality of life with year round recreational activities including a wide range of water activities on the St. Croix during the summer, as well as, during the winter. There are several local parks including Crocker, Cully, and Humphrey. The Kinnickinnic State Park and the Afton State Park are close with camping, swimming, fishing, hiking, and winter activities. Afton has a variety of fun activities to do there with the beautiful recreational St. Croix river running parallel to the city with the Afton Marina right in town. The Afton House and Catfish Saloon are great restaurants for dining and entertainment. A wonderful and well-known ice cream parlor is located on the main street.
